Summer Holidays: Friday Fringe at the V&A Museum of Childhood

BBC Proms Family Music Intro – An Event for All the Family

  • Saturday 25 July at 17:45 (before Prom 12)
  • A family-friendly series taking place before seven specially selected Proms to introduce the concert’s music in an interactive and fun way. Bring along an instrument if you want to play along with the workshop musicians, or just sit back and watch! You’ll get a taster of the music you’ll hear later on in the main concert by playing or hearing some of the tunes.
  • This concert celebrates some of England’s great composers, Works by Elgar, Delius and Holst take you on a journey through Edwardian London, The High Hills of England all the way to outer space in The Planets.
  • Workshops are specially designed for children aged 7-plus and their families
  • All Family Music Intro events take place at the Royal College of Music.

Hands on Puppets – Family Workshops at the Horniman Museum, SE23

  • Saturday 25 July 11 – 11.45 and 12.15 – 13:00
  • You can touch real museum objects from all over the world in these family sessions. Explore animals, toys, puppets, music, costume and much more in themed workshops using our amazing handling collection.

  • We celebrate the launch of the summer holidays weekend with some special holiday workshops that ask you to make, create and join the fun!
  • Free family activities.
  • Children aged 6 to 12 years and their families are warmly welcomed at our free Saturday workshops. Workshops begin at 14.00 and it takes an hour and a half to complete the activity.
  • Collect your free ticket at 13.00 on the day from the information desk in the Seamen’s Hall. Spaces are limited, so tickets are allocated on a first come first served basis.

Super Contemporary – Celebrate Your City! at the Design Museum

  • Sunday 26 July 2 – 5pm. Workshops start promptly at 2pm. Please arrive 15 minutes early to avoid delays at the Admissions desk
  • What would you build to celebrate your capital city? Inspired by Super Contemporary, the museum’s celebration of London’s dynamic design story, here’s your chance to create mini 3D designs for London, from pioneering parks and playgrounds to beautiful bridges and buildings.
  • A programme of fun and creative family workshops for children 5 – 11 on Sunday afternoons 2 – 5pm.
  • All creativity workshops are suitable for children aged from 5 to 11
  • Workshops cost £4 per child and they must be accompanied at all children’s workshops by a paying adult (£8.50).

  • Join the BBC Symphony Orchestra in a programme of Czech, Russian and Hungarian music. Dance is a special theme in tonight’s event with Bartok’s Dance Suite and Stravinsky’s ballet music depicting the fairy tale of the puppet Petrushka. Bring your instrument or your dancing shoes to the workshop and join in.

Thai Festival – Battersea Park

  • Sunday 27 July 10 – 19:00
  • A celebration of Thai culture and lifestyle will include authentic Thai foods, craft, handmade items, and entertainment.
  • The Thai Food Festival will run at the British Genius site.
  • Entrance is £3 with kids under 120cm free.

Family Summer Fun at the RAF Museum NW9

  • A month of activities exploring the fun side of flight. Each day we will be running a craft activity in our Aeronauts Gallery. A nominal charge will be made to cover materials.

Big Batty Walk & Late Night Opening at the WWT London Wetland Centre, SW13

  • 30 July 2009
  • The WWT London Wetland Centre is an excellent site for bat watching, with nine species recorded on the reserve. Our Bat Walks consist of a talk by one of our bat experts before heading out to the wild reserve, complete with bat detector, to see and hear which species are swooping around. Times vary with sunset.
  • Adults and children over 8 years. Children should be accompanied by an adult. £10- booking is essential. Ticket price includes admission to the centre from 5pm.
  • Late night Thursday – Discover the site as the sun starts to set and watch the summer birds’ behaviour at this time of day. Half price entry to the centre from 6pm. (Closes at 9pm)
