The Lambeth Country Show (SE24)

  • Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 July from 11 – 19:00 at Brockwell Park.
  • Lots of hands on activities for children and adults to enjoy including a funfair, brass band and a range of trade stalls.
  • Brockwell Park will be filled with a wide variety of music and entertainment. There will be arts and craft available to buy and try, trade stalls and horticulture competitions. With hands-on activities for children and adults to enjoy with live animals from farmyard breeds to more exotic species, as well as brass band’s, storytelling and a funfair, there’s something for everyone.

 Patterns of History – Free Family Workshop at Somerset House

  • 18 July 2009
  • Take inspiration from the work of the Omega Workshops in the Courtauld Gallery, and types of pattern you can find, to design your own colourful textile in this practical print workshop
  • Children aged 6 to 12 years and their families are warmly welcomed at our free Saturday workshops. Workshops begin at 14.00 and it takes an hour and a half to complete the activity.
  • Collect your free ticket at 13.00 on the day from the information desk in the Seamen’s Hall. Spaces are limited, so tickets are allocated on a first come first served basis.

 Hands on Music – Family Workshops at the Horniman Museum, SE23  

  • Sunday 19 July at 14 – 14.45 and 15:15 – 16
  • You can touch real museum objects from all over the world in these family sessions. Explore animals, toys, puppets, music, costume and much more in themed workshops using our amazing handling collection.

Weaving at the Seed Walk – Coco de Mer

  • Tuesday 21 July
  • Giant woven willow seed sculptures, some up to 4 meters high and 5 metres wide, line the mini-Broadwalk at Main Gate. These towering sculptures feature seeds like star anise, horse chestnut, poppies, devil’s claw and Banksia.
  • A further five – lotus, honesty, Sophora, sycamore and coco de mer – will be crafted on site over the summer. Workshops will give families a chance to get involved and help to weave the sculptures.

Big Batty Walk & Late Night Opening at the WWT London Wetland Centre, SW13

  • 23 July 2009
  • The WWT London Wetland Centre is an excellent site for bat watching, with nine species recorded on the reserve. Our Bat Walks consist of a talk by one of our bat experts before heading out to the wild reserve, complete with bat detector, to see and hear which species are swooping around. Times vary with sunset.
  • Adults and children over 8 years. Children should be accompanied by an adult. £10- booking is essential. Ticket price includes admission to the centre from 5pm.
  • Late night Thursday – Discover the site as the sun starts to set and watch the summer birds’ behaviour at this time of day. Half price entry to the centre from 6pm. (Closes at 9pm)
  • Enjoy Caribbean night – Tantalise your taste buds with our flavoursome international a la carte cuisine served in the Water’s Edge Café. Experience multicultural delights from all corners of the globe while relaxing by the lake and enjoying the warm nights. (No booking required)
