MetM_Summer SwingParty for the Planet at Kew Gardens

Bloomin’ Marvellous Summer Party at the Lyric Theatre

  • Saturday 11th July from 10 – 16:00
  • Lyric Theatre, Lyric Square, King Street, Hammersmith
  • A free fun-packed day of shows and activities for all the family created by some of London’s best theatre makers. This year’s Summer Party theme is the humble handkerchief, as it becomes John Hegley’s Hammersmith Hanky Party!

Barnes Fair (SW13)

  • Saturday 11 July
  • This year’s Barnes Fair will be filled with historical figures and traditional entertainments. Old favourites such as the Gallopers, which date from 1903, Helter Skelter, Smiley Happy Train and Punch & Judy shows will be returning, whilst the line up of historic music includes a men’s barbershop chorus, Barnes Big Band and Barnes Choir. Vintage cars and old fashioned floats will be exhibiting in the Parade whilst historic characters aged 3-12 will be welcomed at the NEW Fancy Dress competition in the Events Arena.

Hands on Africa – Family Workshops at the Horniman Museum, SE23

  • Saturday  11 July at 11 – 11.45 and 12.15 – 13:00
  • You can touch real museum objects from all over the world in these family sessions. Explore animals, toys, puppets, music, costume and much more in themed workshops using our amazing handling collection.

‘Paradise Found’ – Children’s Art Day at Somerset House

  • 11 July 2009
  • Paint your own vision of paradise, after taking a look at artists of the past, and their ideas of sublime or beautiful places.
  • Children aged 6 to 12 years and their families are warmly welcomed at our free Saturday workshops. Workshops begin at 14.00 and it takes an hour and a half to complete the activity.
  • Collect your free ticket at 13.00 on the day from the information desk in the Seamen’s Hall. Spaces are limited, so tickets are allocated on a first come first served basis.

Kid’s Movie at the V&A Museum of Childhood

    • Come to the Design Museum for an exciting day of fun, family-friendly design activities, including an unmissable opportunity to meet children’s author Lauren Child who will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of her ever-popular Clarice Bean stories. Look out for more details of Lauren’s exciting visit to the Design Museum on our website. The day also includes drop-in workshops, ‘Meet the Designer’ sessions and exhibition trails and tours for children.

     Big Batty Walk & Late Night Opening at the WWT London Wetland Centre, SW13

    • 16 July 2009
    • The WWT London Wetland Centre is an excellent site for bat watching, with nine species recorded on the reserve. Our Bat Walks consist of a talk by one of our bat experts before heading out to the wild reserve, complete with bat detector, to see and hear which species are swooping around. Times vary with sunset.
    • Adults and children over 8 years. Children should be accompanied by an adult. £10- booking is essential. Ticket price includes admission to the centre from 5pm.
