Buzzing bees at Kew Gardens 

  • From early June Kew will be buzzing with two bee hives in the wild flower display and a bee discovery centre in Climbers & Creepers, the Gardens’ botanically themed children’s playzone. These hives will help visitors learn more about the important role of bees in the natural environment.
  • Opening hours: Monday – Friday:   9.30am – 5.30pm with later times on weekends and bank holidays.

 The Monster under the Bed at the Polka Theatre (SW 19)

  • Runs to 25 July
  • Imagine swapping places with a monster for the day…Ben has a BIG problem. His best friend Vince has stolen his precious binoculars, his Dad is far, far away…oh, and there’s a monster under his bed. But when Ben swaps places with the underbed monster, Ben’s life – and his school – is turned inside out, and upside down.

Wish Wash at the Polka Theatre (SW 19)

  • 8 July – 15 August 2009
  • Everyone has wishes. But when wishes lose their sparkle, it’s time for a Wish Wash! Join Dinah as she sets off into a magical world. You’ll meet colourful characters who will help you make a lot of mess where you shouldn’t, dance like nobody is watching, and make as much noise as you want!
  • A new interactive show for under 6s and their families. (For Children aged 2 -5 years old – duration 1 hour).
  • As this production is a promenade style performance, audience members will be required to move throughout the building at various intervals. Seating will be provided in some locations.

  • The National Theatre’s annual summer festival of outdoor theatre, circus, music, dance, comedy and film.

Free Live Music in Battersea Park

  • At La Gondola Cafe at Battersea Park (Next to the boat lake).
  • Every Saturday & Sunday to October 25th 2009 (weather permitting).
  • Come and experience live music from London’s finest grassroots acts. With special guests, kids entertainment and kids dress up box.

Launch! Shipbuilding through the Ages on the HMS Belfast (SE1)

  • A family-orientated exhibition with hands-on and computerised interactive displays and engaging film and footage to demonstrate techniques of shipbuilding, from the ‘age of sail’ to modern prefabrication methods. 
  • The exhibition will focus on the science, engineering and social history of shipbuilding in Great Britain, and the interactive elements of the exhibition will allow children of all ages to get involved and experience this history
  • No pre-booking required.
