BBC Proms Family Music Intro – An Event for All the Family

  • A family-friendly series taking place before seven specially selected Proms to introduce the concert’s music in an interactive and fun way. Bring along an instrument if you want to play along with the workshop musicians, or just sit back and watch! You’ll get a taster of the music you’ll hear later on in the main concert by playing or hearing some of the tunes.
  • Meet the National Youth Orchestra! Come and discover the incredible talent and personalities of Britain’s most outstanding young musicians as they perform brand new works by the NYO’s six talented teenage composers, each of which will give you a fascinating reflection on tonight’s symphonic programme. BBC Proms Family Music Intro – An Event for All the Family

  • A family-friendly series taking place before seven specially selected Proms to introduce the concert’s music in an interactive and fun way. Bring along an instrument if you want to play along with the workshop musicians, or just sit back and watch!   • Sunday 9 August is dedicated to the piano and what happens when two or more of these great instruments go head to head on the concert stage! With 176 keys, 6 pianists, 2 pianos, 1 conductor and a full orchestra, you won’t be disappointed! The concert will include family favourite The Carnival of the Animals and a brand new work for two pianos and orchestra. This Family Music Intro event will explore the world of the piano featuring six-piano ensemble pianocircus.

  • Ranked as one of the best orchestras in the world, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra performs with outstanding singer Magdalena Kozena in a concert including music by Sibelius and Duparc as well as Ravel’s beautiful ballet score Daphnis and Chloe.

PLUS – Thursday nights at the WWT London Wetland Centre

Big Batty Walk

  • Thursdays 6, 13, 20 and 27 August
  • The WWT London Wetland Centre is an excellent site for bat watching, with nine species recorded on the reserve. Our Bat Walks consists of a talk by one of our bat experts before heading out to the wild reserve, complete with bat detector, to see and hear which species are swooping around. Times vary with sunset. Adults and children over 8 years. Children should be accompanied by an adult. £10- booking is essential. Ticket price includes admission to the centre from 5pm.
  • Or enjoy the long summer evenings with our late night openings on Thursdays during July and August. Discover the site as the sun starts to set and watch the summer birds’ behaviour at this time of day. Half price entry to the centre from 6pm.
  • Tantalise your taste buds with our flavoursome international a la carte cuisine served in the Water’s Edge Café. Experience multicultural delights from all corners of the globe while relaxing by the lake and enjoying the warm nights. (No booking required)
  • The centre will be open until 9pm throughout July and August.
