Saturday 2 & Sunday 3 August

Innocent Village Green (W1)

  • From 11am to 7pm on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd August in Regent’s Park (W1).
  • Fabulous family-focused fete with a great music line-up, alfresco dancing, duck herding, funfair rides, face painting, a farmers’ market and loads of stuff for tots and the odd grown-up too.
  • The innocent village fete is a non profit making event that supports Samaritans, Friends of the Earth, Wellchild and the Innocent Foundation.
  • Tickets cost £7.50 for adults and £3.50 for kids aged 3 and older (excludes a booking fee). Book early – click here.

V&A Museum of Childhood Summer Fete (E2)

  • Sunday 3 August from 11.30am-4.30pm at the V&A Museum of Childhood, Cambridge Heath Road, London E2 9PA.
  • The V&A Museum of Childhood’s summer festival brings a touch of Glastonbury to East London, the museum grounds buzz with the sounds of live music, street performers and rickshaw rides. Plus face painting, food stalls, activities and games to keep the little monsters entertained.

Pizzaz at Hyde Park (Lido Children’s Playground)

  • The highly energetic Pizazz entertains the kids with parachute games, circus antics and much, muchmore.

Fairytale Princess with Deva the Dreamduster

  • On Monday 4 August your little princess will be wowed at the Fairytale Princess Camp with Deva the Dreamduster.
  • A drop off activity session for 4-6 year olds, the Camp runs from 10am-1pm at Eddie Catz Putney, First Floor, 68 -70 Putney High Street, SW15 1SF.
  • The price is £26 – £29 depending on the class and includes a hot lunch. (There is a sibling discount.)

Saturday 9 & Sunday 10 August

Kids’ Theatre Week (Various Locations)

  • As if you need more drama in your life, for the week of 15 – 29 August, West-End Shows are free for children (aged 5 to 16years), if accompanied by a paying adult (and up to two more pay half-price). There are over 30 shows participating.
  • Children can also take a peek backstage and discover the secrets of the shows, meet the stars, learn to dance, to stage-fight or slap on stage make-up.

Family Music Intro (SW7)

  • Saturday 9 August at 5.15pm (before Prom 31), this programme includes Gershwin, Stravinsky and Bernstein.
  • The Britten Theatre, Royal College of Music, Prince Consort Road, London SW7 2BS.
  • Part of the BBC Proms, the Family Music Intro pre-concert workshops introduce the concert’s music in an interactive and fun way.
  • Bring along an instrument if you want to play along with the workshop musicians, or just sit back and watch!
  • For children aged 7-plus and their families.

Proms Family Orchestra (SW7)

  • Saturday 9 August at 2.00pm-4.00pm (before Prom 31)
  • The Royal College of Music, Royal College of Music, Prince Consort Road, London SW7 2BS.
  • Jazz infuses the concert programme with the rhythms and melodies that inspired Gershwin, Stravinsky and Gwilym Simcock.
  • Join the Proms team and professional musicians in a session inspired by the Doctor Who Prom and its themes of time and space. The idea is to give family members –mums, dads, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles and grandparents – the chance to play music together. Everyone is welcome, from keen amateurs to those who’ve never played in an orchestra before – it’s ideal for those who haven’t picked up their instrument in years! Whatever instrument you play, at whatever level, you can come and join in the fun.

  • Enjoy circus-inspired events with performances, participatory activities, storytelling and workshops tailor-made for children and their families.
  • The Courtauld Gallery will also be free to adults and children during this time.

  • A new piece specially commissioned from Errollyn Wallen. Begin with a rehearsal at the Royal College of Music before moving over to the Royal Albert Hall for a performance of the world premiere of the piece with Errollyn and her brother, trumpet player Byron Wallen, on the stage at 4.00pm.
  • Join the Proms team and professional musicians in a session inspired by the Doctor Who Prom and its themes of time and space. The idea is to give family members –mums, dads, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles and grandparents – the chance to play music together. Everyone is welcome, from keen amateurs to those who’ve never played in an orchestra before – it’s ideal for those who haven’t picked up their instrument in years! The Great British Duck Race at Hampton Court Palace

  • Sunday 31 August, Hampton Court Palace.
  • The RSPB wants us to chuck a duck in the Thames as part of the World Record attempt for the biggest duck race ever! Sponsor a duck for just £2 and help raise money for the RSPB’s conservation work. The race starts near Hampton Court Palace and the course will wind its way downstream to Albany Reach in Kingston upon Thames. Quack! Quack!
